Female Founded Businesses

It’s International Women’s Day and we’re celebrating boss women from the Afterpay community who are levelling the playing field and kicking serious career goals. The theme for this year’s IWD is #eachforequal, highlighting that collectively each one of us are responsible for challenging bias, stereotypes and creating a gender-equal world. With that in mind, check out these amazing women and the businesses they’ve built!

Active Truth

On the same day in 2011 two women, Stevie and Nadia, moved to Brisbane and into neighbouring houses. The pair quickly became friends taking long pram walks in search of good coffee. As two new mothers, the pair bonded over the changes their bodies had experienced during pregnancy and the challenges around returning to exercise – especially the lack of activewear that not only looked good but performed during a workout. They decided to take matters into their own hands and thus, Active Truth was born!

Active Truth is committed to creating activewear for a diverse range of bodies and wants women to look and feel good when they’re getting active. They keep it real, opting against photoshopping models in their content and continuing to challenge body image stereotypes. Shop their amazing range of activewear here using Afterpay!

Splice Boutique

Marisa Young and Gabby Manderson are sisters from the Northern Beaches of Sydney and the founders behind The Splice Boutique brand, opening their flagship store in Freshwater in 2001. Fast forward to 2020, and the sisters now own and run two physical stores and a buzzing online boutique. From management of the company, to the day to day operations and assisting with large stock deliveries, to merchandising and window displays, to promotions and social media – the duo touch all facets of the business. Added to this, they also do the fashion buying for all boutiques. With it’s relaxed beach side vibe and friendly service, the popularity of the boutique isn’t surprising! You can feel Marisa and Gaby’s passion for Splice Boutique born from a love of fashion and unique style as soon as you enter their stores, scroll through their socials or checkout online! Head in store or to their website to explore a beautiful curation of labels not found elsewhere on the Northern Beaches.  You can shop the online Splice Boutique here using Afterpay!

I Love Linen

Established in 2013, I Love Linen began with the search for beautiful bedding that also guaranteed the perfect night’s sleep. Lauren Roe, founder and Chief Linen Lover began her quest for high-quality French linen sheets after a trip to France. As they’ve expanded, I Love Linen has become one of Australia’s go-to online destinations for all things home. P.E. Nation

P.E NATION was concepted in Sydney by powerhouses Pip Edwards and Claire Tregoning. A brand that is for all women who are invited to JOIN THE NATION and never look back! P.E NATION was born from a universal need for multi-faceted active wear, given the global shift towards juggling a fast pace life with looking stylish at the same time. Pip and Claire noticed this trend and gap in the market for fashion-activewear. Since its launch in March 2016, the brand’s street-meets-sportswear offering has expanded to include everything from extremely technical active wear, nostalgic 90’s streetwear, snow gear and everything in between. This is a female founded brand that we can’t get enough of! Iconic activewear from P.E NATION available here.

Frank Body

Bree Johnson (alongside four fellow co-founders) launched Frank Body five years ago with a single product – the famous coffee scrub. Initially the brand was entirely self-funded and relied on social media to grow their business. Frank’s clever and witty online presence encouraged customers to share photos of themselves using the signature coffee scrub on Instagram, which sent the hashtags #frankeffect and #letsbefrank and Frank brand viral. Since then, Frank Body has gone from strength to strenght with the natural coffee-based skincare range growing from a single scrub to over 20 products with stockists all over the globe! Plus, we’re all about keeping it local, which is why we love that their cruelty-free, coffee-based products are all made in Australia. We ❤️boss women and we ❤️Frank! Shop their amazing products here using Afterpay!

We hope you’ve enjoyed learning about these #bosswomen, just as much as we’ve enjoyed celebrating them! #EachforEqual #IWD2020
